27 - by Brad

Happy Birthday Lindsey!

You may be older..

...but you're still cute.

Here are some interesting facts about your birthday number (from Wikipedia)...

Twenty-seven is the smallest positive integer requiring four syllables to name in English, though it can be defined in just two: "three cubed." There are a total of 27 books in the New Testament. Many famous musicians died at the age of 27, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Jimi Hendrix. Good thing you're not a famous musician. There are currently 27 Amendments to the United States Constitution. Finally, 27 is the age of my amazing wife, Lindsey. (That isn't on Wikipedia, although it should be).

Bravest of Them All - by Brad

I was waiting for Lindsey to post this since I heard most of this second hand, but...

A couple weeks ago, we had a mouse in the laundry room. Lindsey called me at work from on top of the washing machine. I laughed a lot during that phone conversation. Despite a few screams, she finally braved dismounting, running out of the laundry room, and stuffing a towel under the door so the mouse couldn't get out until I got home.

As Lindsey was packing up the boys to retreat from the house for the afternoon, Elliott needed his sandals... which were still in the laundry room with the mouse. Lindsey told Elliott he could go in and get them, but Elliott declined the offer. Wesley told Elliott that grandpa should be there to get his sandals (Lindsey's dad rescued them from a previous mouse when I was out of town).

Pretty soon, Wesley said, "I'll get your sandals for you Elliott," and he headed for the laundry room.

On his return to the van with sandals in hand, Wesley said, "I'm as brave as grandpa."

In proud defense of his grandfather, Elliott replied, "No you're not."

But Wesley silenced Elliott by saying, "I got your sandals for you."

Elliott and Amy - by Brad

After our weekend in Spokane, we brought our niece Amy back to stay with us for a few days. A couple nights ago, after the kids had been in bed for over an hour, I went down to tell them to quiet down a little and try to go to sleep. However, when I got to the doorway, I arrived in the middle of a sweet conversation...

Elliott: so, what does "care" mean?

Amy: "care" means like "I don't care about bad words, but I do care about God".

Elliott: yeah, me too, I don't care about bad words, but I care about God, and I care about everything in the Bible.

Amy: yeah, that's what "care" means.

I just smiled, walked away, and let them continue to define the word "care". I remember the feeling of having "deep" conversations with my friends before going to sleep when I was a kid. I hope the memories of their late-night conversations stick with them.

Spokavegas - by Brad

This weekend we visited the Kolbo's in Spokane, or "Spokavegas" as my brother-in-law so affectionately calls it.

Here are all the kids watching TV on the couch...

Again, watching TV in their pajamas. There were better pictures of this, but I like that Spencer is trying to get Wesley to wrestle with him in this one...

We did more than just sit the kids in front of the TV (TV just allows for picture of kids sitting still). On Saturday, we went to Manito Park. It is a pretty big park with lots to see. There is one area that is a large field with different types of flowers. You can see some of it here...

Buns at a fountain...

Kids in a waterfall...

Sweet photo by Linz...

Elliott and Amy sure do love playing together...

Busy Week and Random Pics - by Brad

We just wrapped up a crazy-busy week, so we hope to be able to relax a little this weekend. The boys' cousins from Spokane were visiting for several days, so the boys played hard all week. Lindsey helped a friend paint and reorganize the Cubbies room as she is getting ready to co-direct the AWANA Cubbies program at my parents' church. At my work, the other three people in my office were out most of the week, so I ended up having to do a lot of things at which I am not proficient. It was one of those weeks where after the boys go to bed, I could just sit there with my mind a complete blank.

One of the evenings Elliott was playing with his cousins, Lindsey was painting, and I played with Wesley and Spencer all evening. They wanted to play on the front porch, so I took the opportunity to get a picture of them sitting next to each other, reminiscent of pictures taken last year of Elliott and Wesley. What I like about this picture is that even though they are two years apart, they are just about the same size...

In anticipation of 103 degree weather, we went swimming in the river today. We had a picnic and Elliott got creative with his Red Vines and Capri Sun...

Now for some randomness. Here are some of the boys pictures they have taken with their camera.

A couple of Elliott's Lego creations...

A self-portrait of Elliott...

A toy stag beetle in the back seat of our van...

And a picture up Elliott's nose. I believe this was taken by one of his cousins this week...

Shhh, Wes is Sleeping - by Brad

As I sit at our desk and type this, Wesley is asleep on my lap, flopped over my knee. I am home from work early to watch the boys while Lindsey is working at the church. I was playing guitar at our desk when Wesley woke up from his nap and came upstairs. He flopped in my lap and fell asleep.

It took a little trickery to reach the camera, take a picture, and upload the picture, but here it is. I know I have said it before, but I love it when my kids fall asleep on me.

Pearrygin '08 - by Brad

Last Sunday we headed to Lake Pearrygin for a few days with my parents. They took their trailer and we camped in our tent next to them. The weather was nice and the lake was refreshing. I can't say it was a relaxing vacation... I don't think we will have one of those for at least 15 years... but it was a nice vacation. Here is a sampling of our few days...

We spent most of our time by the lake swimming and getting some sun. Elliott didn't want to do much except play in the water and practice swimming...

We had to get a little resourceful when trying to get Spencer to take his normal naps...

We went on a hike to see a waterfall... Wesley got bit by a horsefly (not pictured)...

As always, Winthrop is swarming with deer...

Spending time with Grandparents...

Photo Blog - by Brad

Here's an interesting news-in-pictures blog from the Boston Globe. They have some neat photography. I found it through its entry about Jupiter (amazing pictures by the way).

Tomorrow we take off to Pearrygin Lake with my parents, so we won't be around for a few days... I hope no blog reading robbers come across this and try to break into our house while we are gone.
